Metrol has launched a new high-precision and compact Touch Probe for machine tool applications that is resistant to radio wave interference compared to conventional infrared-ray communication..

The Metrol RC-K3E Touch Probe’s compact size of φ40mm, achieving 1μm repeatability with its four-point internal mechanical system, makes it ideal for compact machining centers and high-speed machines with small shanks. Within its range of 15m, radio wave channels of communication are uninterrupted by any obstacles in between the transmitter and receiver makes it suitable for precision measurement on large turnmill centers and 5-axis machines.

The Touch Probe’s radio transmission system selects the optimal channel automatically by searching the radio wave frequency band at all times. Metrol’s Touch probe is resistant to radio wave interference compared to conventional infrared-ray communication and not affected by obstacles and coolant.

The new probing system offers 50% more energy saving compared to conventional battery-operated system with no deterioration of accuracy with decreasing battery life.
